Meet the Creator Behind Anaesthesia Vault

Dr Francois Uys

Throughout my training in anaesthesia, I constantly battled the overwhelming feeling of having to master endless resources. The scattered information, fragmented notes, and outdated textbooks created anxiety and frustration, making effective studying difficult.

Driven by the need for clarity, I developed AnaesthesiaVault—a powerful, interconnected resource designed specifically for anaesthetists. Built using Obsidian’s unique linking structure, it reflects our brain’s natural way of making connections between concepts. This intuitive, evolving knowledge base simplifies complex topics and continuously updates itself as anaesthesia evolves.

Today, AnaesthesiaVault is a thriving community, empowering over 250 anaesthetists across 15 countries to learn smarter, practise better, and excel both clinically and academically.

How Each AnaesthesiaVault Note Comes to Life

Step 1
Map the Curriculum
Start with the CMSA, FRCA & ANZCA syllabi → generate a master list of topics and sub-topics, filling gaps where the curricula diverge.
Step 2
Collect Gold-Standard Sources
Pull only peer-reviewed, high-impact material: BJA, ASA Anesthesiology, Current Opinion, Oxford & Miller texts, plus trusted websites like OpenAnaesthesia, ATOTW, The Bottom Line, Deranged Physiology, and more.
Step 3
Highlight the Essentials
Import PDFs, web pages, and guidelines into Omnivore and Zotero → highlight key points → auto-export to an Obsidian inbox.
Step 4
Distil & Draft in Obsidian
Condense those highlights into concise, clinically focused notes inside Obsidian, retaining full citations for every statement.
Step 5
Format with AI—Human in the Loop
Run drafts through AnaesthesiaNoteExpert (custom GPT) to enforce a clean, consistent structure. All content is then reviewed by a practising anaesthetist before publishing.
Step 6
Add Visual Mind-Maps
Generate quick-look mind-maps with Whimsical to surface relationships and boost retention.
Step 7
Publish & Iterate
Push the updated note to AnaesthesiaVault, tag it by domain, and mark it for future evidence checks. Weekly sweeps add new trials, guidelines, and reader feedback.

Every note you read is tightly referenced, clinically relevant, and already linked to 350 + related topics—so you spend your time learning, not Googling.
